Union Pacific -- a railroad important to U.S. History
Union Pacific -- the railroad established by Congress and Abraham Lincoln to span the continent - has had some very tough growing pains recently. But it is surviving and many believe it to be the most important American railroad. A 1996 merger with Southern Pacific to form the nation's largest railroad caused what regulators call an unprecedented breakdown in rail traffic through the heart of America that has lasted more than 10 months.
The Central New England Railway Bus Tour 2010
The Central New England Railway (CNE) came from northern Connecticut and west across the Hudson River in New York to Maybrook. It crossed the great bridge at Poughkeepsie. It later became part of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. In the past few years our tours have covered almost all of the old CNE except for the Springfield branch. For 2010 we plan to go back to the east end and start over. The tentative plan is to tour the area between Hartford and Collinsville and include most of the Springfield branch.
All about the Boston & Maine Railroad before Guilford
Once upon a time there was a Boston & Maine railroad. Where it went; when it was built; what happened to it. From the East Coast all the way to Rotterdam Junction. Passenger trains to Troy. Even went to Saratoga Springs. Ran commuter railroads in Boston.
NY Central Catskill Mountain Branch
The Catskill Mountain Branch of the NY Central was a railroad through the Catskill Mountains in NY State. It ran from Kingston on the Hudson River to Oneonta where it connected with the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. When did the New York Central Railroad acquire the Ulster & Delaware and when was it abandoned? What is the current status of the branch? What tourist railroads are running on it?
Fishkill Landing
The Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad became part of the Central New England Railway (CNE). The New York Central ran from New York City to Albany and beyond through the Hudson Valley. The two roads met at Fishkill Landing.
