People dress up in period costumes and take on roles of the time. Most commonly, people re-enact the Medieval period, in Europe, but may also re-enact other periods in other parts of the world. The largest organization which does this is the Society for Creative Anachronism, which re-enacts the Middle Ages as they should have been. Another favorite activity is Renaissance Festivals. These are held once a year in various parts of the country, United States, England, and Germany, to name a few. Here, people turn out in their period clothing to mingle, among reconstructed buildings, and buy and sell crafts and food, and generally have a good time.
