Family Reunion! - Let 'em Fly! Johnny from Topsail Beach, NC After a couple weeks of inactivity around my Topsail Beach colony, there seems to be a family reunion of sorts going on. The gourd rack is covered in martins, mostly younger birds, but several asy males in full dress uniforms. It was nice to see, as I thought the season was over and the birds had flown the... - 2011/07/25 End of Season? - Haven't seen any martins around the colony today. I just went out right before dusk expecting to find birds as usual. None there. I did enjoy the experience this year. Got a lot of work to do in the off season getting ready for year two. Final results: 4 nesting pairs in natural gourds 13 total eggs 1 egg failed to hatch 1 dead bird found und... - 2011/07/17 Successful Year in Topsail Beach - Haven't posted in a while. But the bird news is good. All birds have fledged. I did a nest check today which revealed eight empty gourds. For the year ....... We had four nesting pairs laying 13 eggs.
