The Confederate Newspaper Project is the result of my research into the journalistic accounts of the common Confederate soldiers and their own recollections of the war as published in Southern newspapers. This was born out of my ongoing plans to publish these accounts into a series of books, divided into volumes categorized by county or region of a state.

Letters from an Iowa Soldier in the Civil War

These letters are part of a collection written by Newton Robert Scott, Private, Company A, of the 36th Infantry, Iowa Volunteers. Most of the letters were written to Scott's neighborhood friend Hannah Cone, in their home town of Albia, Monroe County, Iowa, over the three year period that he served as Company A's clerk.
