Creating Communities. Connecting People. Together.
April 28, 2009
Dear WebRing Members and Managers,
A little over two years ago, I took some time to introduce myself and provide a little history and vision for WebRing. Many of you are probably new to WebRing since that time, so I think it is time to reintroduce myself and again share our vision in these uncertain times.
I'm Tim Killeen and I co-own WebRing with my wife Chris. I have been part of WebRing since its early days. I came on board in 1997 as a lead engineer just after Starseed purchased WebRing. If you have not read my earlier letter, I encourage you to read it now:
November 21, 2006 - Creating Communities. Connecting People
In that 2006 letter, I gave an overview of how WebRing got to where it is. One stop in that journey involved GeoCities purchase of WebRing's purchase and our subsequent separation in 2001. Now, as many of you have already heard, GeoCities current owner Yahoo! is planning on closing down GeoCities soon, perhaps as early as this summer.
GeoCities sites have always been a valued part of WebRing, and we hate to see that change. With YOUR help, we can save a lot of those sites by getting their owners to move their websites to WebRing's free Webspace area.
Do you have a GeoCities site, or know someone who does? If so, we encourage you to move and/or contact anyone you know who has a site and encourage them to move as well.
The vision we shared in 2006 is the same now as then: "We want to create Internet communities that allow people to easily connect and share information." We've done a lot since then (see what here) and are continuing to make WebRing a complete solution for everyday folks like you and me. With your help we can be even better.
Thank you for your continued support of, and dedication to, WebRing and our shared vision.
